England’s white-ball teams for the next home series against the West Indies—Harry Brook’s first series as captain—have been revealed. The series will start with the first of three ODIs at Edgbaston on May 29. Three T20Is will follow. However, the release of the squad has already drawn attention, since Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone are among the notable absences.
Following England’s poor campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they lost in the group stage without recording a victory, the team has been reorganised. After Jos Buttler resigned as captain, Brook assumed leadership of England in white-ball cricket.
The selectors chose a change, even though some well-known faces were kept. Due to his availability during a possible scheduling clash with the final rounds of the IPL, where his team, Gujarat Titans, are serious candidates to make it to the playoffs, former skipper Buttler is expected to play a significant role and maintain his spot in both squads.
Livingstone has notably missed time with both teams. A spot in the ODI and T20I teams was lost due to Livingstone’s recent slump in form, which saw him score only 33 runs at the Champions Trophy. He was once seen as a key component of England’s middle order and even captain when Buttler was not available.
Similarly, Salt, a consistent top-order option in recent months, is left out of the ODI team. Although Salt has excelled in the game’s shortest version, his frequent failure to convert starts in the 50-over level has resulted in his expulsion.
To spearhead England’s ODI pace attack is Jofra Archer.
It has been almost three years since Liam Dawson was called up for the T20Is. Additionally, in Livingstone’s absence, Will Jacks has earned berths in both squads, while Tom Hartley has been chosen the main left-arm spinner in the ODI squad.
After suffering difficulties due to injuries, Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts return to the bowling department. Jofra Archer, who has been rested for the Twenty20 Internationals, leads the ODI pace attack along with Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood, and Jamie Overton. After being absent since September 2023, Luke Wood is back in the T20I lineup.
