The five-time champion Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing 2025 IPL season, but they finished on a bright note with a crisp 83-run victory over Gujarat Titans. Following the success in their final league match, several fans and ex-cricketers have spoken out about former CSK player Suresh Raina, implying that he may return as a coach.

CSK assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram was queried about the reports during the post-match news conference, and he declined to confirm or refute them.

“I do not know. “I have to ask him if he said that,” Sriram stated, as reported by India Today.

During a post-match talk, Aakash Chopra asked Raina if CSK’s new batting coach’s initials began with the letter “S” as the conversation shifted to the future of the CSK backroom staff. To which Raina responded, “He has made the fastest fifty.” Later, Chopra said, “Chalo ho gaya bhai, you heard it first here.”

Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey is CSK’s batting coach, a job he has held since 2018. Raina’s likely hiring might be owing to a change in the coaching staff as the team attempts to rebuild after coming last in the IPL points table for the first time in franchise history.

Despite a terrible season, CSK finished with a strong effort against the Gujarat Titans.

Youngsters Ayush Mhatre (34 off 17), Urvil Patel (37 off 19), and Dewald Brevis (57 off 23) led the squad to their greatest season total of 230/5. Sriram praised the newcomers who stood up amid a season plagued by injuries.

“These are forced adjustments. There were injuries, and we needed to replace. Fortunately for us, those who came in fared well. “I won’t go back and look too deeply into it, saying we made mistakes at the auction table,” Sriram said.
