Kent’s opening batter, Ben Compton, has signed a new three-year contract with the club. The left-handed top-order hitter, who is currently the leading run-scorer in Division Two of the ongoing County Championship, has agreed to stay with Kent until 2028.

Ben Compton has scored 5,704 runs in 74 First-Class matches, with an impressive average of 45.26.

In terms of List A record, he has 1,143 runs in 26 games, with a nearly same average of 45.72.

He has scored more than 4,700 of Kent’s runs in all formats. Compton expressed gratitude and excitement about having the opportunity to represent the club in the years ahead.

“Kent has become my home, and I am thrilled to continue my playing career here. The current scenario allows us as a squad to strive and push ourselves to see this famous and historic club return to its previous glory. “I’m excited and driven to be a part of that journey,” Ben Compton said, according to the club’s website.

Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket, commended Compton’s batsmanship and expressed satisfaction that the prolific batter had decided to continue representing Kent.

“Compo is an amazing opening batsman and an important member of our squad; his records stand up to any in the country, and his ability to bat under pressure and play the game his way has made him the anchor of an innings on numerous times for us. “I’m delighted that he has decided to stay at Kent for the foreseeable future, as we look to build a playing squad that can compete across all formats,” Cook said.

Kent are currently in the midst of playing their Division Two encounter against Northamptonshire at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. They are 325/4 at Stumps on Day 1. Compton scored 66 off 145 in an innings which contained six fours.
