Akash Deep removed Ben Duckett for the second time in the second Test at Edgbaston as India resumed their dominance. After Shubman Gill’s remarkable double century and tonne in the same Test, guiding the visitors to a massive second-innings total of 427/6 declared and setting England’s second-highest Test goal of 608 runs.
Mohammed Siraj ejected Zak Crawley after substitute Sai Sudharsan caught him at gully. Three overs later, Akash sent Duckett back to the pavilion for the second time in the match as the home team recovered from the opening wicket.
The bowler bowled an angled back-of-a-length delivery around the wicket. The southpaw, batting outside the crease, hit it with an inclined bat but got a heavy inside edge that hit the middle stump.
Duckett returned with 25 off 15 balls and five boundaries, but Akash Deep again defeated him.

Earlier in the day, India’s second innings was built around Gill’s brilliance and cameos from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. Gill’s 161 in the second innings, along with his first-innings double ton, made him only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score a hundred and a double hundred in the same Test. He also joins an elite list of just nine batters in Test history to achieve this feat.
Furthermore, he is also the second captain to do so in England, following Graham Gooch’s iconic effort against India at Lord’s in 1990. Alongside Gill, vice-captain, Pant added 65, and a 69 by Jadeja further pushed England back in the game. At the time of writing, the home team’s scorecard read 49/2, needing 558 runs to win the Test
