South African left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba has surpassed Indian left-arm spinner Deepti Sharma to take second place among bowlers in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after a strong performance against India in the final of the South Africa Tri-series, which also included the West Indies.
Nonkululek Mlaba finished the Tri-Series with six wickets, taking them at an average of just 8.66 runs each.
She also gave up just 3.25 runs per over, moving her rating to a career-high 753, just 10 points behind fellow left-arm spinner from England, Sophie Ecclestone.
Sneh Rana of India, who moved up four spots to a career-best sixth rank after collecting two for 21 in the Tri-Series final, is another spinner to make noteworthy advancements.
Chloe Tryon, a South African all-rounder, is the key player with the bat after scoring an undefeated 57 in the final and earning Player of the Match honours.
In the most recent update to the rankings prior to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, India’s Harmanpreet Kaur (up one spot to 10th), Deepti Sharma (up two spots to 23rd), and Harleen Deol (up 20 spots to 110th) are among the batters to rise up the list. As the finest in the world battle across three locations in South Africa, the next 10-team competition could offer a number of opportunities.
Tahlia McGrath and Beth Mooney, two Australian batters, are considering future milestones. In the women’s T20I batting rankings, McGrath could surpass Charlotte Edwards’ record of 843 points set in June 2009, as she is only 40 points behind her.
