Dwayne Bravo, a former all-rounder for the West Indies, took to social media on Friday to announce his retirement from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the message, he thanked his fans for their support and said that he is looking forward to working with new bowlers in his new role as bowling coach for the franchise that he played for, the Chennai Super Kings. Bravo represented the Chennai Super Kings during his time in the IPL (CSK). After the 2023 bowling season, Bravo is going to be the one in charge of the team’s coaching staff.
“I am announcing today that after 15 years of playing in the most competitive Twenty20 tournament, I will no longer be participating in the Indian Premier League. It has been a wonderful adventure, even if there have been many highs and lows along the way.
At the same time, I am thankful that I have been able to participate in the Indian Premier League for the past 15 years. I am aware that today is a difficult day for me, my family, and most importantly, my followers.
But at the same time, I want all of you to join me in celebrating my professional accomplishments over the past 15 years “stated Bravo in an Instagram post.
“I am getting ready to move on to other things and hang up my bowling boots, and I wanted to let my supporters know that I am looking forward to putting on my coaching hat in the near future. I am excited to work with the younger bowlers in the CSK organisation.
This new possibility has me very excited, especially considering that my current mission in life is to assist in the training and development of future champions. Dwayne Bravo was made available for free agency by Chennai Super Kings in advance of the IPL 2023 mini-auction after the team mutually decided to part ways with him.
With 183 wickets from 161 matches, Bravo holds the record for most wickets taken in the history of the Indian Premier League. The all-rounder has also scored 1560 runs at a strike rate of approximately 130, and he has been instrumental in several of the Super Kings’ victories.
Since 2011, Bravo has been an important cog in the machine that is the Chennai Super Kings. His contributions helped the Chennai Super Kings win the Indian Premier League in 2011, 2018, and 2021, as well as the Champions League Twenty20 in 2014.
Additionally, he was the first player in IPL history to earn the Purple Cap for having the most wickets in a season twice (2013 and 2015).
Over the course of his career with Chennai Super Kings, Bravo has appeared in 144 games, during which he has taken 168 wickets and scored 1556 runs.
