Arguably, the best spinner to have ever played cricket is Muttiah Muralidaran. After taking 800 wickets in 133 Tests, 534 in 350 ODIs, and 13 in 12 T20Is, he said goodbye to international cricket. In Tests and ODIs, no bowler has taken more wickets than Muralidaran.
Throughout his remarkable global career, which lasted nearly twenty years, the off-spinner confounded a number of elite hitters with his exquisite abilities. During his playing career, he engaged in some memorable clashes with some renowned batters. On Saturday, January 6, during an interactive session with SB College students, Muralidaran identified Virender Sehwag as the hardest batsman he has ever bowled against.
The 51-year-old, who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2011, said that he “greatly admired” West Indies legend Vivian Richards as a batter.

It took Muralidaran three years to learn the skill of bowling the “doosra,” according to the renowned Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
“I was taught the fundamentals of bowling the ‘doosra’ by Saqlain Mushtaq. It took me more than three years to become proficient at the doosra delivery, according to Muralidaran.
The Kandy native reflected on his time spent in 2011 with the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, a former Indian Premier League (IPL) team. He believed Kerala would produce more gifted cricketers like S Sreesanth and Sanju Samson.
The experience of playing with the Kochi Tuskers was amazing. Like Sreesanth and Sanju Samson, I hope Kerala produces more talented cricket players in the future,” Muralidaran said.
Muralidaran was a member of Sri Lanka’s side that won the 1996 ODI World Cup. Additionally, he had a significant influence in elevating the Lankan Lions to the top of the cricket world rankings. Currently, Muralidaran is the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s spin-bowling coach, having previously won the IPL. He has performed admirably during his several seasons with the team.
