Dinesh Karthik believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is very good, will just be a reserve opener for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 team. Yashasvi has excelled in Tests and T20Is since making his debut on the international scene last year, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself in the ODI setup.
Regarding his brilliant displays in Test cricket, the Mumbai batsman averages an incredible 68.53 in nine games and has amassed two double hundreds. In contrast, he is hitting 164.32 in Twenty20 Internationals with an average of 36.15 through 23 games. Given his talent, it seemed only a matter of time until the Southpaw establishes himself as one of India’s most dependable hitters in the 50-over format.
Dinesh Karthik believes that India won’t interfere with captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s opening combination in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy competition the following year.
“Why? Shubman and Rohit work well together. Yes, Jaiswal has a fantastic chance to start in place of Shubman in the event that he doesn’t perform up to par. He will have his chance shortly. Furthermore, India has a strong middle class,” Karthik told.
Following Gautam Gambhir‘s appointment as the Indian team’s new head coach, Shubman was recently elevated to the position of vice captain. The hitter from Punjab defeated players like KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya to be Rohit’s ODI deputy.
There are just three more 50-over matches for Team India to play before the Champions Trophy, after they were recently defeated 0-2 by Sri Lanka in their three-match ODI series. Given the short amount of games they have left to prepare for, Karthik believes that India would prefer not to make too many changes to their batting lineup.

They have three more games left before they compete for the Champions Trophy. And I’m quite sure that Shubman and Rohit will open for the Champions Trophy,” the former cricket player turned pundit continued.
