Not only is fast-bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah beloved by many young Indian cricket fans and aficionados, but renowned former captain MS Dhoni also considers him to be his favourite bowler at the moment.
MS Dhoni was seated on a podium with two organising committee representatives at a recent function. Dhoni engaged the crowd, which included a sizable number of media, in a heated conversation. One of the guests asked which batter and bowler he preferred right now. Without hesitation, the former Indian captain and world champion chose Bumrah as his choice bowler. He did, however, offer a more complex justification for his batter selection.
“Favourite right now? “Look, picking a bowler would be easy since we have Bumrah,” Dhoni remarked at the occasion. “Dekho bowler toh aasaan hai.”
With respect to his favourite batter, Dhoni said it was difficult to single out one person since there are so many incredibly brilliant and skilful players in the league right now. He explained that this was not an indication of a weakness in any of the other bowlers, but rather demonstrated how hard it was to identify a single standout performer in the midst of opinions that were constantly changing as batter after batter took the crease.
I don’t want to choose a batsman, so let’s see how Team India does: MS Dhoni
Notably, MS Dhoni stated that he would be more than happy to not have to pick out a specific hitter as long as the Indian team kept scoring runs and playing well. Nevertheless, Bumrah remained his preferred bowler at the moment.
“Batsmen na humaare paas, iska yeh matlab nahi ki bowler kharaab hai, kyuki itne achhe-achhe batsmen hai kyuki”. Let me just say that it’s not as easy as it seems to pick up. Iss ho ko dekhna hai, jisko batting karte waqt dekho na toh lagta hai yahi hai bhai. However, another person arrives, saying, “Voh bhi utna hi achha lagta hai” (it’s challenging to choose a batter because we have multiple excellent batters, but that doesn’t imply that the bowlers aren’t competent). The Almora native went on, “It’s hard to choose just one batter because whoever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else, he looks great to the eye as well.”
“Team India is strong, but I don’t want to choose a batsman,” said the captain. They should continue to score runs, but bowler maine ek pick karliya hai (I don’t want to select a hitter as long as Team India is performing well), so hopefully they will continue to pile up runs. But I’ve chosen my favourite bowler [Bumrah]),” continued Dhoni, after which a host asked the fervent audience to ask the following question.

Every captain Bumrah has worked with in the Indian team has shown him to be their go-to bowler. He played in 21 T20Is and 8 ODIs under Dhoni’s leadership alone, highlighting his crucial contribution in all white-ball formats.
