Smriti Mandhana, a prominent batswoman for India, created history in the present ODI series between the two countries with yet another outstanding performance against South Africa’s women. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 19, the teams squared off in the second One-Day International of the series.
Smriti Mandhana was the standout player for the Indian women’s team, who had won the first ODI with a commanding score thanks to her century in the opening game. But there was no difference in the second ODI.
Mandhana opened the Indian team’s innings by batting first once more and amassed yet another incredible century. With 136 runs in 120 deliveries, Mandhana maintained her outstanding form and laid the groundwork for the women in blue during the first half.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, supported Mandhana and contributed a fantastic knock as well. After entering the game in the middle order, Harmanpreet Kaur struck 103* runs in 88 deliveries, leading the Indian women’s team to 325 runs in the opening session.
With two wickets, Nonkululeko Mlaba was the highest wicket-taker among the South African women. Masabata Klaas also claimed a wicket. The South African women have already lost the first ODI and now have a daunting 326 runs to score.
India women will win the first ODI and secure the series if they are unable to pursue the aim. In the opening match of the series, South Africa’s women tried to chase down a total of 266 but were bowled out for just 122 runs in the second innings.
Here’s how X reacted to the first innings:
