Dec. 8, 2023, New Delhi: The JSW-GMR-owned Delhi Capitals are prepared to bolster their team for Saturday’s WPL Auction 2024 in Mumbai.
With 15 players still under contract, the Delhi-based team has to add three more players from the auction to complete their roster for the 2024 WPL. They would have INR 2.25 crore left over before the auction.
Head Coach Jonathan Batty stated prior to the auction, “We want to increase the squad’s depth. We built a strong 18-player squad and fared incredibly well in the auction last year. We just want to use the forthcoming auction to marginally improve our present team. We are eager to enter the auction and the coaching staff has had some conversations about the team we would want to field.”
Batty said, “We saw a great quality of cricket in the last edition of the Women’s Premier League. The Women’s Premier League has set the standard for all other women’s tournaments worldwide.” In the competition were the world’s top players. Great contests and scores were witnessed. All other women’s tournaments worldwide are measured against this competition.”
Assistant Coach Hemlata Kala responded to a question on the WPL’s effects by saying, “There’s a lot of excitement among the women cricketers after the advent of the Women’s Premier League.” Every player wishes to participate in the competition. Women’s cricket has benefited from the WPL’s first season. This is evident from the Indian team’s recent success in T20 cricket. Additionally, the athletes’ power-hitting and fielding abilities have increased.”
