After the Delhi Capitals finished their Indian Premier League 2024 group stage, assistant coach Pravin Amre spoke candidly about Prithvi Shaw’s removal from the starting lineup for the previous two games. Shaw did not play in the first two games of the season despite being retained by the Capitals before the season began. He hit a speedy 43 off 27 balls against Chennai Super Kings in his opening IPL 2024 match. In the game against the Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, the right-handed batsman proceeded to score 66(40). But from then on, his form began to falter.
However, Abhishek Porel seized the moment, hammering home 327 runs at a 159.51 strike rate in 12 innings.
Porel played a key role in DC’s group-stage finale against the Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium. With a 19-run victory, DC emerged triumphant.
With a knock of 58 off 33 deliveries, he left the opposition bowlers dumbfounded. He helped DC score 73 runs during the powerplay. Additionally, he and Shai Hope shared a 92-run partnership for the second wicket.
Prithvi Shawwas a guy we retained, and as you can see, he was benched for the last four [of five] games.
However, that is the Indian Premier League. You cannot [maintain your place] if you are out of form. In the end, every game matters and we have to win since the team is under so much pressure, Amre stated, citing ESPNcricinfo.
“And we had carried it out. We took the games without having to play him. And whoever was given the chance, I believe Abishek seized it with both hands,” he continued.
