On May 17, at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squared off in Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) Match 67. After winning the toss, MI chose to field first. Mumbai rested star bowler Jasprit Bumrah and brought in Arjun Tendulkar, although LSG made two significant alterations to their starting lineup.
Devdutt Padikkal was the one who lost the final game to Quinton de Kock. Padikkal, like De Kock, has been struggling with form. Yudhvir Singh Charak was replaced by Matt Henry, marking yet another change. LSG’s chances of qualifying for the postseason are slim because they need to defeat MI by a score of at least 300 runs. As things stand, it was evident from KL Rahul’s remarks during the toss that he was disappointed.
“We intend to play bowling. Wankhede is an excellent place to chase. In the evening, it appears more pleasant. In the organisation, it’s all about competing for the badge and pride—all of those things matter. We are aware of our position. However, playing well towards the conclusion of the season will always be recognised. Pandya remarked at the toss, “It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves.”
“Devdutt enters, and Quinton loses out. Enter Matt Henry. The main adjustments are those. Evidently let down. We had a strong start to the season. We occupied the top four spots a few weeks ago. But that’s the nature of the competition. Rahul stated during the toss that “today is an opportunity to come out and play our best cricket and entertain the crowd.”
