In the match on Wednesday, April 3, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), captain Rishabh Pant has come under fire for failing to attempt a DRS within the allotted 15 seconds and giving Sunil Narine a reprieve.
The Capitals fell against KKR by 106 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, their third loss in four games, after giving up an incredible 272/7 in their 20 overs. Following the game, Pant criticized his bowlers, saying they were disorganized.
“There was no consistency among our bowlers. Simply put, we were absent that day. At the post-match presentation ceremony, Pant remarked, “Today was one of those days.”
“Our main goal as a batting unit was to continue playing hard together. “It is better to go all out as a team than to not aim for the goal,” he continued.
With seven fours and as many sixes, Narine destroyed the DC bowlers his route to scoring 85 off 39 balls, making him the hero of the show at bat for the previous two-time winners. The Caribbean all-rounder, though, had the opportunity to be removed in the fourth over of the session when Ishant Sharma forced him to edge a ball to Pant behind the wicket. When the wicketkeeper finally decided to go for the DRS, the allotted 15 seconds had already passed. Nevertheless, he wavered in his decision.
Rishabh Pant reported that following the game, the crowd was quite boisterous and that it was difficult to see the DRS timer on the enormous screen from the ground.
“I believe there was a lot of noise here. In addition, I was unable to see the timer on the screen. On the screen, there was an issue. Though some things are beyond your control, there are some that you can manage,” stated Pant, who also declined to request a review when, while batting at number three, his opposite Shreyas Iyer sneaked one past Rasikh Salam’s bowling.
Skilled left-arm spinner Axar Patel gave up eighteen runs in just one over of bowling. Pant expressed his desire to avoid bowling too many spin overs during the high-scoring match. But he was disappointed in the pacers’ inability to carry out their game plan.

We didn’t want to utilize spinners, but our fast bowlers were just going through the motions, as you can see from the thought process. I believe it is time for personal introspection. We must grow from these errors and perform well in the upcoming game,” Pant said.
After 14 months, the 26-year-old made his competitive cricket comeback in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The southpaw has put his act together and recorded back-to-back half-centuries after taking a few rough blows.
“I’m doing great. Stepping outside. Having fun every day, although cricket has its ups and downs,” the Haridwar native remarked regarding his level of fitness.
The main role of batting in cricket is to offer more as a batter. Sunil Narine
Following his game-winning stroke, Sunil Narine stated that batting is the main focus of cricket, which is why he tries to use the willow as often as possible. During the DC chase, the Player of the Match winner also took one wicket.
“Battering is the main role in cricket, so I want to be a better batsman. Nevertheless, I still have fun bowling,” Narine remarked.
“I have one role and the less I know, the better it is for me,” he responded to the team, joking about missing hitting sessions. Ultimately, it is what the group needs. “I’ll bat if they need me to,” he said.
As Narine and Angkrish Suryavanshi struck half-centuries against the Capitals, winning captain Shreyas Iyer showered them with accolades.
As I mentioned in the toss interview, Sunny is there to take on the bowlers, and the rest of us ought to do so if he is unable to. That is the strategy. Right from the start, Raghuvanshi showed no fear. He has an extraordinary work ethic. He is good at situational analysis. He’s a clever batter, and his shots looked well,” Shreyas remarked.
