Even though David Bedingham of South Africa was a consistent player in the County Championship Division One, he was left out of all the publicity. The 30-year-old is presently the tournament’s top run scorer with 926 runs at an average of 71.23 from 14 games for Durham. Even so, Bedingham has not garnered much attention, particularly with Ben Stokes playing on the side.
It is unprecedented for a foreigner to receive accolades in England while Stokes is around. But Bedingham doesn’t care about it; he stated that he wants to obtain a UK passport so he may play as a local. The batsman, who was born in George, had stated that he would have liked to play for England in international cricket, but he now feels that this is not feasible and is eager to succeed for South Africa instead.
“Getting a [UK] passport was always the plan, and I’m still working towards that, so I can play as a local player.” That might occur in two years, in my opinion. I would be foolish to consider representing a nation for which I am ineligible.
There was a chance I may have been qualified to play for England if I had been playing exclusively in England for six or seven years and I hadn’t returned to South Africa, David Bedingham told.
However, I don’t think I really thought about or believed that. If I had qualified throughout the course of the six years without playing in South Africa or for South Africa, I doubt that I would have given it any thought. It’s beneficial to have a positive outlook and want to perform well for Durham and Western Province while also scoring runs for South Africa. That much is evident,” he continued.

In the impending series against the West Indies, Bedingham will be used, filling in for Dean Elgar, who will be absent. After he retires, Bedingham is a strong candidate to step into the enormous shoes of South Africa’s red-ball cricket hero. The cricket player would like to maintain the momentum after scoring 74 runs against Champs XI in the warm-up match.
