After the Proteas prevailed by one run in a low-scoring thriller played on Saturday, June 15, at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, Dale Steyn praised the South Africa vs. Nepal match as the 2024 T20 World Cup match.
At one point, the Asian side cruised, even though they were chasing a meagre target of 116 on a difficult surface. After taking seven wickets in the last three overs, just 18 runs were needed. But after taking two wickets in his final over, the eighteenth over of the innings, including the well-positioned Aasaif Sheikh, Tabraiz Shamsi raised the alarm. Ultimately, Gulshan Jha attempted to rush through for a bye but was unable to connect with a short ball from Ottneil Baartman with two runs needed off the final ball. But Heinrich Klaasen was calm, and he found Gulshan short of his crease with an under-arm flick that hit the stumps.
Dale Steyn, the renowned speedster from South Africa, declared after the game that he supported the “underdog” sides and that he wanted Nepal to win.
With victories in all three of their prior Group D games, the Rainbow Nation had already secured their place in the Super Eight stage, so the match held no significance for them. Following their defeat, Nepal was also eliminated.
“Watching it was amazing. To tell the truth, I believe this to be the tournament’s match. Steyn commented, “I’m a big underdog fan, so even being a South African, I was kind of like, ‘Come on, Nepal.’ You were spurring them on,” in a video that the ICC (International Cricket Council) released.

It’s evident from watching people cry in the stands during these suspenseful dramas how important cricket is to people, and that’s what it’s all about. This is the game’s main focus, not the 200s. If Nepal had crossed the border, it would have definitely been spoken about in the community and at the competition. That would have been amazing. He continued, “They almost deserve to win.”
