Pat Cummins is aware of how critical it is to keep Rishabh Pant at bay during the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, which begins in November. The wicketkeeper-batter, who made his Test cricket comeback unforgettable, hit a brilliant century in the second innings of India’s opening Test match against Bangladesh last week at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Pant has the ability to overwhelm the opposition in the game, according to the Australian captain. He said that the 26-year-old’s antics during the much anticipated series should be taken seriously by the Australian team.
There are one or two players on every squad that are aggressive competitors. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are from Australia. I believe those guys will take the game on since you can expect them to be aggressive. Cummins stated on Star Sports, “Like Rishabh Pant might play a reverse slap and it is an incredible shot and that’s just part of who he is.”
“He’s someone that has a big influence in a couple of series and we have go to try and keep him quiet,” he continued.
Can Rishabh Pant replicate his feats from 2022–2023 in Australia?
On their last two Test journeys to Australia, India came out on top. When they last visited in 2020–21, the Asian powerhouses prevailed in the four-match series by a score of 2-1. With 274 runs from five innings at an average of 68.50 and a strike rate of 69.89, Pant emerged as the third-highest run scorer. In the fourth Test match at Gabba, he produced an undefeated 89 to help India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Pant has an incredible track record in Test matches for Australia. He has scored 624 runs at a 62.40 average and a 72.13 strike rate in 12 innings. The young player has been battling with the bat since his recovery from many injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in December 2022, so Indian fans will be overjoyed that he finally achieved his century. As India plays three more Tests against New Zealand and one more against Bangladesh, he will aim to continue to perform well. His performance in the following four matches would be crucial for him to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy if he scores runs.
