Only a select few players are able to hold an ICC trophy, and even fewer are able to do so if they repeatedly win the champions’ medal at competitions hosted by the International Cricket Council.
Star cricketer Virat Kohli of India and skipper Rohit Sharma joined the list of current international men’s cricket players with the most trophies won as players after being a part of the winning squad at the T20 World Cup 2024.
Since these two teams have won more ICC championships than any other in the previous fifteen years or so, only players from Australia and India are included on the list. Let’s take a closer look at the list of guys who have played for winning teams in ICC competitions, even though the two Indians on it are the only ones mentioned above.
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood – 4 Trophies
For fifteen years, the men’s senior team regulars are included in the lethal Australian foursome. Though they were two of the four newcomers, Hazlewood and Cummins were on the squads that won the World Test Championship in 2023, the T20 World Cup in 2022, and the ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2023. This has led to four trophies at the sport’s largest and most prestigious international competitions.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – 3 Trophies
In 2007, Rohit Sharma made his ICC debut in the first-ever World Twenty20, which saw the Men in Blue triumph in South Africa. In the tournament’s grand final, the Indian team, led by MS Dhoni, defeated Pakistan to win the first event.
During the 2007 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma was a key member of the winning squad. However, Virat Kohli was a member of the victorious squad for the 2011 ODI World Cup. In the 2013 Champions Trophy, where the Indians defeated England to win the trophy, both of the elite cricket players were present together. Both players had a few trophies between them before this point, but their most recent victory at the T20 World Cup 2024 has elevated them to the status of current cricketers with the second-most trophies overall.
