The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to provide Mohammad Haris, a batter, a NOC (No Objection Certificate) allowing him to participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, forcing him to return to Pakistan from the Dhaka airport.
This was a humiliating scenario for Mohammad Haris.
As he has participated in two franchised league competitions since July 2023 and is ineligible to participate in any more, the board declined his request to represent Chattogram Challengers in the BPL.
It is important to note that Haris accepted the chance of visiting Bangladesh without the necessary documents, which was subsequently refused, and that the board declined to cover the cost of his return airfare to Pakistan from Bangladesh. As a professional courtesy, the BPL team Chattogram Challengers paid for his return flight to Pakistan.
Mohammad Haris had asked the Pakistan Cricket Board for a NOC and was told to go to Bangladesh for the BPL. Chattogram Challengers aim to get better in the next games.
Speaking of Chattogram Challengers, they have participated in two BPL 2024 matches thus far, winning one and losing the other. With two points from two games, the team is now in fourth position. They will aim to move up the points table by winning more of their next games.
The team defeated Khulna Tigers but prevailed over Sylhet Strikers in their opening match of the competition. In the tournament’s fourth game, both teams squared off, with the Challengers winning the toss and going to bat first. The top-order of the team was unable to affect the outcome of the match as Challengers amassed 121 runs in the first innings, with Shohidul Islam scoring the most at 40 runs.
Challengers suffered their first setback of the season as Tigers won the match by four wickets after chasing the target with remarkable ease. On Monday, January 22, Chattogram Challengers and Durdanto Dhaka will square off at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The team is hoping for their second win of the season and a better showing against Dhaka.
