On Wednesday, August 28, in Tarouba, Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium, the West Indies concluded their three-match Twenty20 International series with a commanding victory, winning the third Twenty20 by eight wickets (by DLS method) due to rain. This assisted the Caribbean team in sweeping the Proteas 3-0.

In order to give his bowlers the best opportunity to exploit the early moisture on the pitch, interim skipper Roston Chase won the toss and decided to play first. Reeza Hendricks was removed by Akeal Hosein during his three outstanding overs with the new ball, which he bowled while only allowing 11 runs to be scored. Rain stopped play in the middle of the fifth over, lasting nearly an hour. Ultimately, 13 overs per side were used to settle the match.

When play resumed, Chase entered the attack and, in an extremely uncommon instance, bowled a maiden to Ryan Rickelton, who also managed to survive a dropped chance, during the final over of the powerplay, in which teams attempt to score as many runs as they can.

In the opening six overs, the Proteas could only muster 23/1. This was before the attack on the West Indies bowlers was launched by Rickelton and South Africa’s skipper, Aiden Markram. As the momentum started to slowly turn, the next three overs produced 38 runs.

Romario Shepherd got rid of the two set batters in the tenth over, though, and the home team rallied. After hitting five fours and three sixes in his innings of 40 runs off of 15 balls, Tristan Stubbs produced an incredible performance that helped the tourists reach 108/4 in their 13 overs.

Shai Hope keeps up his impressive form as the West Indies thrash their opponents.

With regard to the West Indies, the amended goal was 116. Alick Athanaze was dismissed by Bjorn Fortuin in the first over, so things did not start well for them. But together, Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope added 58 runs in just 20 balls. Before Shimron Hetmyer joined Hope in the centre, the southpaw was removed after 35 balls on 13 balls.

With 22 balls remaining, the seasoned pair helped their team win with 56 runs off 33 balls. Hetmyer hit 31 not out off 17 deliveries to lead Hope to an eight-wicket victory, while Hope stayed undefeated on 42 off 24 balls.
