Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary batter, will be commemorated with a life-sized statue at Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium. The statue will be unveiled at the opening of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum, which is scheduled to open soon.
Sunil Gavaskar, as a veteran servant of Indian cricket, deserves a statue that will elevate his fame to the next level.
Sharad Pawar, a former ICC president and significant BCCI and MCA politician, will be recognised with a statue, in addition to having the museum named after him. Gavaskar has conveyed his profound gratitude to MCA, whom he names his mother, stating that he will be eternally grateful. The 76-year-old stated that receiving a statue is something he will treasure for the rest of his life.
“I am deeply touched and tremendously honoured that my mother Cricket Association has decided to have a statue of mine at the entrance of the new MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket museum at the Wankhede Stadium. I will forever be grateful to Mumbai Cricket Association for holding my hand as I took my first steps in the game and to the BCCI for then giving me the opportunity to spread my wings and fulfil the dream of representing my country in the sport. It’s an honour which I will cherish for whatever is the rest of my life,” Gavaskar told via an MCA release.
