Amped-up Mohammed Siraj was celebrating after dismissing England captain Ben Stokes on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. After a hard-fought 17 overs, the England skipper was Siraj’s first Test wicket.
Siraj angled a length round-the-wicket delivery. Stokes struck after the ball ripped away after pitching. The Three Lions all-rounder used a ridiculous mid-off to play the ball squarer. He grazed the ball to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and turned around to find the catch complete.

Stokes wasn’t the only batter to go down for the hosts. Ollie Pope (106 off 137) had left Prasidh Krishna’s bowling a few overs earlier with the intention of cutting the ball away. However, the centurion only managed to skim the ball to wicketkeeper Pant.
England finished the second day with 209/3 from 49 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took all three of the English wickets. A batting collapse earlier in the day left India bowled out for 471 after appearing to be on track to break the 550-run mark.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159), Shubman Gill (147 off 227), and Pant (134 off 178) were the Indian team’s three centurions. England’s Josh Tongue (4/86 in 20 overs) and Stokes (4/66 in 20 overs) split eight wickets.
Zak Crawley (4 off 6) was dismissed in the very first over of his side’s innings. However, Ben Duckett (62 off 94) combined with Pope to ensure England got to a better position. Joe Root was dismissed late in the day by Bumrah. The seasoned batter walked back after scoring only 28. As of writing, the hosts currently trail by 144 runs, but they will aim to go past India’s total, whereas the visitors would be banking on their bowlers to wrap things up.
