Sachin Tendulkar, an Indian cricket icon, has provided crucial guidance to newly chosen Test captain Shubman Gill ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series against England. As India prepares to begin the next World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, with the first Test beginning on June 20 at Headingley, Tendulkar advised Gill to stay focused and not be swayed by external noise.

Sachin Tendulkar emphasised the necessity of trusting one’s instincts and making bold decisions without regard for external judgements.

He acknowledged that people would always have something to say, and that as a captain, it is critical to remain dedicated to what has been discussed in the dressing room and carry it out.

“My advice to him would be to take those bold decisions and not to worry about the outside world so long as the decision is taken in the interest of the team,” remarked Tendulkar, as reported by.

“Because people will have ideas, and they will say that he is being too aggressive or too defensive, or that this is not occurring or that is not happening. He should do what is best for the squad and follow whatever is agreed in the dressing room,” he continued.

The Indian legend said that Gill should not worry about the outside world.

Sachin Tendulkar emphasised that decisions made in the dressing room with the team’s best interests at heart should be completely supported.

He encouraged Gill to trust the process and put the team’s best interests ahead of external opinions.

“So that is what matters above all else, and that is what my advice to him would be: don’t worry about the outer world. The dressing room, and whatever decisions he makes in the best interests of the team, are critical – and I support that,” Tendulkar remarked.

The 25-year-old will skipper the Indian Test team for the first time. Interestingly, Tendulkar was given the captaincy at a young age of 23 years and 169 days, when he took over in 1996.

“(They are) very different periods, therefore there is no use in comparing what happened in Indian cricket back then to what is occurring now. Tendulkar determined that we must address the current situation and take action.
