The Bangladesh Cricket Board is becoming more and more critical of Aminul Islam‘s autocratic decision-making. His most recent action, writing to the sports ministry after it established an inquiry committee to look into anomalies in the most recent BCB election, has only made the situation more tense.

Several board directors were caught aback by the decision, which was made without consulting their peers. But for some, it was in line with how choices have been made ever since Aminul Islam assumed leadership following his victory in the most recent BCB election.

Several board directors that Cricbuzz spoke with acknowledged that they still don’t fully understand how important choices are made. “Aside from board meetings, I believe we’ve had two conversations thus far. A director, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “One was when we decided not to play in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup, and another was when we decided to give BDT two crores to Dhaka University.”

A board director told Cricbuzz under condition of anonymity, “I believe we have had two discussions so far [apart from board meetings] one when we decided not to play the T20 World Cup and another time when he decided to give BDT two crores to Dhaka University. If I am not mistaken, it was more like informing us rather than taking our suggestion. “In the first case, we were informed that we would not be participating in the World Cup because the government did not want us to, and in the second case, we were told that we had made the decision to donate BDT two crores to Dhaka University.

Since this is not the first time something like this has occurred without our knowledge and we should be accustomed to it, I’m not sure why there is such a fuss over not being informed about the media release aimed at the sports ministry,” he continued.

According to Cricbuzz, when Aminul Islam shared the press release with the directors’ group, seven directors—Nazmul Abedin, Mokhlesur Rahman Shamim, Rubabudowla, Abdur Razzak, Rahat Shams, Hasanuzzaman, and Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury—gave it a “thumbs up”. Incidentally, he is currently enjoying time with his family in Australia, where the release was prepared.

Asif Akbar was the only member of the gang to reply, writing, “Thanks chief, it was needed.”

Another board member acknowledged that they were unsure about how to respond, especially in light of the possible consequences of making the letter public. “We are not sure why he did this and who is guiding him [about the letter to NSC] and making it public because we could have handled it in a different way altogether,” he explained.

Since NSC is our guardian, it is improper to write a letter to our parents in this language because you need to be aware that all of the grounds we use belong to NSC for your records,” he stated. “We are not outside the government, and the government’s formation of an inquiry committee does not indicate that we have been found guilty, so they are able to do that. This letter, in my opinion, caused a rift with the government,” he stated.

Cricbuzz is aware that the National Sports Council (NSC) has already started the process of disbanding the committee, notwithstanding Aminul Islam request for the sports ministry to do so. On March 16, the administration formally notified its committee chief to start the investigation. Doulotuzzaman Khan, an NSC official, affirmed that the action is completely compliant with the organization’s constitution. The National Sports Council Act’s Section 24 permits the government to issue directives to the NSC on any subject as needed. For this reason, we (the investigative committee) suggested it,” Doulotuzzaman stated.

The NSC is required to abide by the Act’s explicit authority for government intervention in the interest of effective administration. Doulotuzzaman went on to say that the government still has the right to look into any anomalies because the BCB is an NSC linked body. The government has the power to look into any irregularities or issues that come to its attention because the Bangladesh Cricket Board is an affiliate and schedule-enlisted organization of the National Sports Council, he stated.

“The probe won’t be problematic if they [BCB] believe there isn’t a problem. An inquiry may take place. It is being done by foreigners, not by us. Indeed, total strangers. An impartial former judge exists. People with experience are doing it. “I don’t think it’s a problem in that case,” he stated. The question of law and order—which laws will apply to the investigation and the action that follows—comes up after the investigation. An inquiry may take place. He stated, “I don’t see any issues with an investigation.”

Any interaction with the ICC, he continued, would be contingent on the investigation’s conclusions. “That will be much later. The degree of the anomalies discovered by the independent investigative committee will determine that. After that, it will be decided whether or not we need to meet with the ICC, and after that, the process for taking action will be decided,” he stated.

Meanwhile, it seems that Aminul Islam term is about to enter a tumultuous period.

Administrative difficulties, like as the incapacity to hold regular domestic competitions because of opposition from competing groups, are exacerbating the already developing gap he is experiencing within the board and among some segments of the cricket community. He might have made things more difficult for himself by opposing the government in this way. Additionally, his leadership style, which many in the system increasingly perceive as unilateral, may bear a large portion of the blame if his four-year term is shortened.
