At the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction that took place on Friday in Kochi, there were several significant purchases made. While global allrounders were in high demand, headlined by England’s Sam Curran, who received an offer of Rs 18.50 crore from Punjab Kings, there was less competition for domestic players.
Nicholas Pooran, the wicketkeeper-batter for the West Indies, also received a favourable offer (Rs 16 crore). He was the first player that Lucknow Super Giants purchased during the auction day, which put fellow countryman Chris Gayle in a jovial mood.
Gayle, who was working for JioCinema as an expert, joked to Nikki P., asking for the return of the money that she had loaned to her. “Can I get it back, please?”
At the IPL 2023 Player Auction, all-rounders Sam Curran (who was purchased by Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crore), Cameron Green (who was purchased by Mumbai Indians for INR 17.5 crore), and Ben Stokes (who was purchased by Chennai Super Kings for INR 16.25 crore) became the three most expensive buys.
The Punjab Kings broke the record for the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League auction when they outbid Chris Morris to win the bidding for Curran at an amount of 18.5 crore rupees. When they arrived in Punjab, he met up with his countrymen Johnny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone.
While all was going on, the Mumbai Indians were victorious over the Delhi Capitals and earned the green flag. Stokes, who played alongside MS Dhoni at Rising Pune Super Giants, will join the former captain of India in Yellow shirts as the third most expensive player in the auction. Stokes and Dhoni were teammates at Rising Pune Super Giants.
Chris Gayle laughed as he said, “These three are category players in the private jet category.”
After a long bidding battle with Rajasthan Royals, England’s Harry Brook was eventually purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 13.25 crores. Rajasthan Royals were unable to continue the auction since they did not have enough money in their pocket.
In the three-match Test series that England won 3-0 against Pakistan, Brook scored a total of 468 runs at an average of 43 and a strike rate of 93. Brook has played in 20 Twenty20 Internationals and has scored 372 runs while averaging 26.57 and having a strike rate of above 135.
“Early on, Harry Brook emptied his financial account. Even though that’s a lot of money, I think it’s a good purchase. Additionally, he is a skilled player. I am ecstatic for Mayank and am pleased for him. So, the Sunrisers are really putting it together in the field of batting, “added Gayle.
