The BCCI announced on February 17 the dates and schedule for the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will begin on March 31. Two of the most successful teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), will square off in the 1000th match of the premier league in the upcoming season.
The historic match will take place on Saturday, May 6 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai between the two bitter rivals. Since the league’s debut in 2008, countless jaw-dropping matches have been played, many of which have gone down as some of the greatest in world cricket history. In addition, the fact that Mumbai and Chennai have won five and four titles, respectively, would exponentially boost the anticipation for the 1000th match of the tournament.
In addition to Guwahati and Dharamsala, there will be a few matches played in Guwahati and Dharamsala in the 16th edition of the league, which will be contested at 12 venues.
On March 31, defending champions will initiate procedures.
Chennai, headed by MS Dhoni, will face the defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In addition, the conventional home-and-away structure returns after a three-year absence, as each team will play seven home games and the same number of away games in the league phase prior to the play-offs.
The league also features 18 doubleheaders, with afternoon games beginning at 3:30 p.m. IST and evening games beginning at 7:30 p.m. The championship match of the prestigious T20 league will take place on May 28.
The BCCI has yet to establish the exact dates and locations for the event’s playoffs. The defending champions Gujarat Titans, who made their debut last season, will want to add another championship to their collection. Mumbai and Chennai, who struggled in the previous edition, will attempt to turn the tables and reclaim their former glory.
