Carl Hooper, a former captain, will coach for the West Indies.

Carl Hooper is set to become an assistant coach for the West Indies before they play a match against the UAE and compete in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Hooper has more than 5,000 runs and 100 wickets in both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Hooper has been a teacher and mentor at different levels in the Caribbean and Australia. He played for the West Indies in 329 international games over more than 15 years. Hooper has also coached the Antigua Hawksbills and the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. He was also a teacher at the West Indies High-Performance Centre in Barbados. Last summer, the 56-year-old worked as an assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League.

Hooper had short coaching jobs in the Caribbean and Australia before coming to the West Indies. He said it was an easy choice to join the team. “When Daren first told me about the opportunity, I told him right away that I was interested because I really want to help with the challenge and make a big difference,” Hooper told ICC.

“I’m sure that it’s time for West Indies cricket to rise, and I’m sure that my skills, knowledge, and experience will help me with this,” he said.

The West Indies are currently in Sharjah for the series against the UAE, which starts at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, June 4. The second game will be played on Tuesday, June 6, and the third and final game will be played on Friday, June 9.

The West Indies are in Group A for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. In the first round, they will play against neighbors Zimbabwe, the United States, the Netherlands, and Nepal. The ten teams will compete for the last two spots in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India at the end of this year.
