The Indian team is equipped with a bevy of young, promising athletes. There are some who are waiting for their chance as a result of the high level of skill and competition in the current setup, even if several stars like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan are starting to appear consistently in the line-up. Tilak Varma, 20, is one such young player who has wrecked havoc in both local cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Varma participated in 11 games in the IPL 2023, scoring 343 runs with an average of 42.88 and a strike rate of 164.11.
As a result of his performances in the prestigious competition, his country called him up for the upcoming West Indies tour. Varma was selected for the T20I team at a time when the Indian team is about to undergo a transformation. Brad Hogg, a former Australian cricket player, lavished accolades on Varma after his inclusion. After spending some time with the young batter at the Mumbai Indians, the 52-year-old spoke up and expressed that he was “really impressed” with Varma.

Hogg also discussed the Indian team he will field for the T20I series. Since renowned players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not selected, young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will be eager to rise to the challenge.
“Gill and Jaiswal really push the pace of the game in the powerplay, both of whom have good strike rates and a liking for taking on fast bowlers. Samson, I believe, really grounds the inning at No. 3. Suryakumar Yadav comes in at No. 4 because not a single bowler bothers him, according to Brad Hogg.
