It has been determined that India captain Rohit Sharma and pacer Navdeep Saini would not participate in the second test match against Bangladesh. During the one-day international series, he hurt his thumb, and he has not yet fully recovered.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement in which it confirmed Rohit’s absence from the second test and also hinted that Sanii will also be absent.
In a press release, the BCCI stated that “Rohit Sharma is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team following his left thumb injury,” which Sharma suffered during the second one-day international match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Before the Indian skipper can bat and field with full vigour, the Medical Team believes the injury requires some more time to heal entirely. They came to this conclusion after discussing the situation.
He is expected to make steady progress in his rehabilitation, but he will miss the second and final test match against Bangladesh.
“Navdeep Saini is also unable to participate in the second Test due to a muscular issue in his abdomen region. The fast bowler has been instructed to now report to the NCA so that further treatment can be administered to his ailment,” the announcement stated further.
Reports of Rohit’s unavailability appeared earlier on Monday, suggesting that the India skipper hasn’t yet fully recovered from the thumb injury he sustained in the second one-day international match of the series. Rohit’s injury occurred in the second ODI of the series.
Despite the fact that Rohit had come out to bat lower down the order in that match, he had verified that the injury did not appear to be in a good place.
After that, Rohit took a flight to Mumbai to consult with a seasoned professional about the issue. As a result of this, he was ruled out of playing in the third and final one-day international of the series, and his availability for the tests was called into serious question.
After cruising to victory in the first test against Bangladesh, India will be looking to win the second test as well and make a clean sweep of the series by winning both matches.
The following players have been added to India’s team for the second test against Bangladesh:
KL Rahul (C), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara (VC), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat
