Cameron Green will have to make a “huge judgement” about his participation in the Indian Premier League, according to Australian opener David Warner, who also cautioned the all-rounder about the possibility of burnout in front of a demanding schedule.
Green, who has already registered for the IPL auctions, is expected to spend almost half of the season in India for the T20 league in addition to playing in four Tests and two ODIs series there. Green has already registered for the IPL auctions. In addition, he is scheduled to play in one-day international tournaments in England and South Africa before the ODI World Cup in India in 2019.
David Warner made his comments on Monday, one day before Australia was scheduled to play the West Indies in a series of tests. “Nineteen weeks straight in India, being your first trip there as well, can be fairly hard – from the heat standpoint, the playing, and the rehabilitation,” Warner added.
“I’ve been there, and I’ve played in both the Test series and the Indian Premier League. It is a challenge. Then, following that, you will have five test matches in England to contend with.
Then I believe you have a break of twenty days before you travel to South Africa and then participate in a World Cup.
“Glenn Maxwell pulled it off a few years ago, played the entire year, and then got canned when the (Australian) season started.
“From the standpoint of a child, everything is entirely up to him, and the choice is entirely his to make. As a young person, it is a significant decision for him to make because it will affect the course of his life and his career. As players, we are going to respect whatever choice he makes in this matter. However, in the end, it will come down to him and CA.”
Green stated that he is well aware that it is going to be difficult, but he is confident that he possesses the appropriate support system to endure the rigours of the demanding schedule.
“This is going to be an extremely challenging year. That is something that, as far as I can tell, nobody disputes. However, I believe that this is a very wonderful chance. You are going to improve your cricket skills quite a bit if you play in all three formats as well as the Indian Premier League.
“There is a possibility that your body will be pushed a little bit. I can vouch for that by saying that I am surrounded by helpful people and resources that will help me get through this. In addition to doing everything in your power to take care of your body and ensure it gets adequate rest. It’s going to be a challenging year.”
