Prior to the third SA20 2025 tournament, England red-ball captain Ben Stokes is expected to sign with MI Cape Town. The all-rounder is set to sign a contract soon after receiving an offer of £800,000 from the team, according to reports. Due to the notable performances of Kieron Pollard, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Jofra Archer in recent years, Cape Town is home to several elite cricket players.
Despite fielding a fantastic team, they placed last in the standings in 2024, and the team is bringing in talent to turn things around this time. Stokes’ addition is reportedly the first of many as they hope to capture the championship in the upcoming year.
Ben Stokes’ position was further bolstered by the new agreement, as he is now negotiating a new central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
According to The Telegraph, Stokes turned down a multi-year contract offer from the ECB in 2023 and signed a one-year agreement in its place. The 33-year-old may decide to concentrate on franchise cricket moving future, contrary to England’s managing director Rob Key’s expectation that he would sign a big contract in 2024.
Stokes, though, has made it very evident several times in the past month that he wants to win the Ashes in Australia in 2025. Although he might not make as many appearances in ODIs and T20Is as he formerly did, it indicates that there is no concern over his international career. The fact that he signed with Cape Town also means that the cricket player won’t be visiting India for a five-match Twenty20 International series the following year.

In preparation for The Hundred, Stokes also signed with the Northern Superchargers. After the three-match Test series against the West Indies, which starts on July 23, he will join the team. He will then get ready for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
