Mumbai/Brampton, 21st June 2023: When the Global T20 Canada comes back for its third version, cricket fans are sure to be excited. The big event will take place over 18 days, starting on July 20. Six teams from all over Canada will compete to win.
After last week’s Player Draught, in which big-name players like Chris Gayle, Harbhajan Singh, and Shahid Afridi were picked, the teams released their official jerseys for the tournament. The bright and unique colours serve as a visual representation of each team as they try to leave their own mark on the competition.
The Toronto Nationals shirt will have different shades of blue and a thin stripe of red. It will also have the famous maple leaf embroidered on it. Toronto’s head coach, Aaqib Javed, talked about how excited he was for the event. He said, “We are very excited for the upcoming season. Last season, the team did well, and with experienced legends like Colin Munro and Shahid Afridi leading the way, we have a very good combination.
Last year’s table leaders, the Brampton Wolves, are ready to try for the title again. Harbhajan Singh, Colin De Grandhomme, and Tim Southee are a great mix of youth and experience.” We’re sure they’ll help us run a good campaign.”
Head coach Shane Bond said, “The unit is really looking forward to competing in Canada.
The Montreal Tigers have striped red and black shirts and are ready to go for their first championship this season. Head Coach Dav Whatmore was confident in his team, saying, “We have some of the best players who have ever played in this format. With players like Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hassan, Chris Lynn, Sherfane Rutherford, and Carlos Brathwaite on our team, we are in very good hands.”
New entrants The Surrey Jaguars, under the direction of last year’s champion team’s coach Lalchand Rajput, will wear spotted yellow shirts. Head coach Lalchand Rajput, who has already won a title, said, “With big hitters like Alex Hales, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Litton Das on board, the fans will be treated to a very entertaining brand of cricket, which is what this tournament and format are all about.” The boys can’t wait to get started.”
The Vancouver Knights will play in emerald green, and they want to do better than they did last time, when they came in second. Donovan Miller, who spoke for the team, said, “We feel good about the way the team is put together. We have great batters in Mohammed Rizwan and Rassie Van Der Dussen and strong bowlers in Naveen Ul Haq and the kid Karthik Meiyappan, so we think we will be serious contenders for the trophy again.
The Mississauga Panthers will also have their first season this year. They will wear mostly black and purple as they try to make a name for themselves in their first season. CEO Hassan Mirza said, “We liked the draught a lot. Teams always have an edge when they have experienced players like Shoaib Malik and Chris Gayle. We can’t wait to get out there and show what we can do on the pitch.”
