MI New York has made the first Major League Cricket game a star-studded event by announcing a fearsome bowling unit for the tournament.
Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada, two fast bowling superstars, will lead the bowling unit. Rashid Khan, a spin bowling wizard who has played all over the world, will also be part of the star-studded team.
Six teams will compete in the first MLC tournament, which will start on July 13. The much-talked-about event will take place in Dallas for three weeks, and some of the biggest names in Twenty20 cricket will play there.
MI Before the tournament, New York, which is owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, the parent company of Mumbai Indians, which has won the Indian Premier League five times, revealed a team full of stars. Kieron Pollard, a veteran all-rounder from the West Indies, will lead the team in the first edition. Nicholas Pooran, Tim David, Dewald Brevis, and Jason Behrendorff are also from abroad and will play for the West Indies.
“It’s a very powerful group of young people with a lot of experience. Also, Tim David and Brevis are exciting players, and Jason Behrendorff and David Wiese are proven workers. The owner of Mumbai Indians, Akash Ambani, said in a statement, “With the exceptional skills of our local US players, we are confident that MI New York will raise the bar of competition in the cricket ecosystem of the US.”
Robin Peterson and Lasith Malinga have been hired to work as coaches.
Pollard recently joined the coaching staff of Mumbai Indians. He also led MI Emirates, one of Mumbai’s sister teams, in the first ILT20. Also, Afghan hero Rashid Khan and Proteas fast bowling star Kagiso Rabada will play for MI New York. They both played for their sister team MI Cape Town in the first SA20 earlier this year.
In terms of the coaching group, former South African all-rounder Robin Peterson has been named the team’s head coach. Lasith Malinga, a famous bowler who used to play for the Mumbai Indians, will be the bowling teacher. The hitting coach will be J Arunkumar, and the defence coach will be James Pamment.
