The Men in Blue will visit the rainbow nation for the second time in a year when they embark on their November 2024 tour to South Africa, which was announced on Friday, June 21. Cricket South Africa (CSA) revealed the tour on Friday afternoon via social media, adding yet another task to India’s already demanding schedule following the end of the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
For those who are unaware, Namibia’s skipper and famous cricket player Gerhard Erasmus requested the Indian board to think about holding warm-up matches against them in Windhoek, the country’s capital, on X (previously Twitter).
Erasmus feels that the sport will gain more popularity in India if the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) approves of the same.
The star all-round player quoted the Proteas Men’s X account, which stated in a recent post that “Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are delighted to confirm the scheduling of yet another thrilling KFC T20 International (T20I) series, which will see India travelling to South Africa in November 2024.” The player then pleaded with the BCCI to warm up in Windhoek. India will play SA during the BGT down under and NZ home series.
In relation to the South African trip, India and the Proteas will play four Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) beginning on Friday, November 8. The series ends on November 15 and the opening game is set to take place in Durban. The remaining fixtures are slated to take place in Johannesburg, Gqeberha, and Centurion, respectively.
Interestingly, the series has been sandwiched between India’s home series against New Zealand, which ends on November 5, and Australia’s Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 trip, which begins on November 22. Consequently, it is still difficult to say whether BCCI will genuinely grant Erasmus’ request.
