The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), the World Cup’s hosts and organizers, have decided to make tickets for games involving nations other than India available before those for games involving those nations.
It is known that this strategy was taken in response to worries that if online counters for all games were launched at once, the ticketing website might crash. The huge interest in India’s matches is largely to blame for this potential problem.
There have been other instances like this one. The previous 50-over World Cup, which was played in England in 2019, crashed due to technological issues brought on by the enormous demand for tickets to India’s matches. The website broke down due to the significant rush of admirers trying to access it.
“The staggered sale approach is designed to handle the expected surge in demand efficiently,” an insider said. It’s the best method of system management for the sake of the fans.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced that ticket sales would take place in stages in order to meet the expected demand for tickets and to give as many fans as possible a fair opportunity to see the world’s top athletes in action.
Tickets for the India games will go on sale on August 31 for the matches against Australia in Chennai (on October 8), Afghanistan in Delhi (on October 11), and Bangladesh in Pune (on October 19), before the full sale of tickets for non-India games. Tickets for the next six India games can be obtained starting on September 2, including those for the Sri Lanka game in Mumbai on November 2, the New Zealand game in Dharamsala on October 22, and the England game in Lucknow on October 29.
Tickets for the November matches against South Africa in Kolkata and the Netherlands in Bengaluru will go on sale on September 2. Last but not least, tickets for the eagerly awaited India-Pakistan match in Ahmedabad on October 14 will go on sale on September 3. Beginning on August 15, fans are urged to register for tickets.
The ticketing partner, Book My Show, did not respond to questions about this staggered and phased sale plan.
Period for buying tickets:
All non-Indian event matches and warm-up games are scheduled for August 25.
