The Adelaide Strikers’ Big Bash League 2023–24 lineup contains Rashid Khan’s replacement, England pacer David Payne. Notably, the top spinner will miss the 2019 season due to surgery after having to opt out due to a minor back ailment. Rashid’s late withdrawal made room for Payne, who was instrumental in the Perth Scorchers’ championship victory in the previous season.
The Strikers’ top spin option going forward is Cameron Boyce, because Rashid is out of the picture. Although all-arounders like Matt Short and D’Arcy Short are expected to occasionally contribute, their spin department appears to be lacking. They do, however, have a very potent pace bowling team that will have to shoulder a lot of the workload in the BBL 2023–24.
Conversely, head coach Jason Gillespie has expressed his happiness that Payne has joined the team. Gillespie describes him as a “proven performer,” and he thinks the club will benefit greatly from his experience and ability to take wickets in the forthcoming season.
David Payne arrival on our team for the forthcoming BBL season fills us with immense joy. He will add a plethora of expertise to our team and is a demonstrated performer at the greatest level. cricket.com.au reported Gillespie as stating, “His ability to take wickets, his fielding prowess, and his positive attitude around the group will all be invaluable to our outfit.”
Thrilled to join the group: David Payne
Payne expressed his excitement about joining the Strikers and getting to know all of his teammates after signing with the organization. The pitcher went on to say that he is eager to perform in front of his home fans, particularly on New Year’s Eve, which is a highly anticipated event.
I know it will be an incredibly amazing night to be a part of, especially on New Year’s Eve, when there is a game with an incredible reputation. I am eager to join the Strikers and hopefully help the squad have a successful season because I have only heard positive things about them,” Payne stated.
