Following his team’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory over Canada, Pakistani captain Babar Azam won over everyone’s hearts by giving gloves to a tearful child mascot. Beyond the score, the game will be remembered for other reasons.
Before the match began, a young mascot appeared to be in tears due to the overwhelming feeling of being among the biggest names in cricket. Social media users quickly shared a photo of Babar embracing and comforting him. After realising how much the young fan admired him, 29-year-old Babar decided to brighten his day.
He approached me following the anthem. He started crying out of excitement. I started to worry. I am a fan, he said, though. Today he acted in the same manner. Standing in the queue, he was crying. As everyone knows, meeting a celebrity causes excitement that’s never been felt before,” Babar stated in an ICC video.
“I thought if he is such a big fan of mine, I have the responsibility to gift him something,” he said further.

With the smallest of margins, Pakistan can still make it to the Super Eight.
At the Nassau County Stadium in New York, the Men in Green defeated Canada by seven wickets in Match 22, ultimately securing their first win of the main event. With 15 balls remaining, Babar and company managed to reach the target after holding the Canadian team to 106/7, largely because to an undefeated 53 by Mohammad Rizwan.
Although Pakistan’s World Cup campaign began with devastating defeats to the United States and India, their most recent success has given them optimism, albeit it still depends on the other team’s performance to advance to the Super Eight.

They have a strong chance of qualifying if they beat Ireland and the USA loses its next two games, as their net run rate is now up to 0.191. This is because there are very small margins of victory needed; even if the USA lose their final two matches by a combined 10 runs (with scores of 140), Pakistan can win by any margin provided they bat first and score at least 112.
