The Dindigul Dragons’ captain, Ravichandran Ashwin, guided his club to a resounding victory in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 Qualifier 2.
Ashwin’s choice to start as the opener came off handsomely as he hit an undefeated 69 off just 30 balls, guaranteeing his team’s final spot.
The 2018 edition winners took on IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in a match that took place on Friday, August 2, at Chennai’s legendary MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The Dragons bowled first and limited their opponent to 108 all out in 19.4 overs after winning the toss. With the bowl, P Vignesh was the main wrecker, amassing remarkable figures of 3/8, while Suboth Bhati and Varun Chakravarthy each contributed two wickets.

Lyca Kovai Kings vs. Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL Finals
Ashwin and Vimal Khumar opened the innings together with the intention of chasing a target of 109. In just 8.2 overs, they amassed a dominant 81 runs together. With 11 fours and three sixes in his innings, the seasoned all-rounder was a master of aggressive batting.
After hitting two consecutive boundaries, he reached his first maximum in the fifth over against R Sai Kishore. The 37-year-old hit back-to-back sixes off P Bhuvaneswaran in the 11th over, which was the innings’ high point. He also hit the winning shot over long-on in the opening over, which was deep midwicket.

Ashwin’s performance in the competition was not an isolated incident. Throughout the TNPL 2024, the veteran has been in outstanding form, scoring 45* off 20 against the Chepauk Super Gillies and 57 from 35 against the same team in the Eliminator.

With one wicket taken in his four overs, Ashwin demonstrated his all-around abilities while also making a contribution with the ball. The Dragons are headed to the final, where they will play Lyca Kovai Kings on Sunday, August 4, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks in large part to his efforts and leadership.
