After an outstanding performance in the shorter formats, India’s Arshdeep Singh could finally receive a call-up for the Test series. For the 2024–25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, India will be travelling to Australia, and this series might be his opportunity to make his debut for the nation in white uniforms. The young player will need to play in domestic cricket, beginning with the Duleep Trophy in September, so the opportunity does not come easily.
According to reports from The Times of India, Arshdeep has drawn the interest of the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee for the crucial Test schedule that is now in play.
In addition to Arshdeep, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is a serious candidate to go on the Australian trip for the series and might be chosen for the home games against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
“Arshdeep has demonstrated outstanding ball movement for India in white-ball contests. To increase his chances of being picked for the Australia tour, he might be required to participate in a few domestic red-ball matches, the first of which is the Duleep Trophy on September 5. Along with (Jasprit) Bumrah, he has a genuine potential of being India’s trump card in Australia, according to a report’s source.
It went on, “Khaleel Ahmed has been selected for both the ODIs and T20Is in Sri Lanka, indicating that the selectors are keen on another left-arm pace option in the white-ball side at least. Khaleel Ahmed toured Zimbabwe for that reason.”
However, the inclusion of children for the Australian assignment won’t be novel. Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, T Natarajan, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj were among the youthful group of players selected for India’s 2020–21 tour. Together led by Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli, the squad also triumphed and won the series 2-1.An
This time, the first Test of India’s tour of Australia will take place at Perth’s WACA Ground on November 22. The New Year’s Test in Sydney will be the tour’s finale.
