Local, August 5, 2023: The Barbados Royals Cricket Cup will be introduced, according to CPL team Barbados Royals, with the intention of showcasing and developing the island nation’s indigenous grassroots talent.
The franchise group is eager to have a similar effect on the grassroots cricket ecosystem in Barbados as they have done with comparable competitions for young and future South African and Indian players through their presence in Paarl and Rajasthan, respectively.
On August 9, 2023, the KMV Oval, Isolation Cricket Club in St. Andrew, Barbados, will host the inaugural Barbados Royals Cricket Cup, in which over 70 players from the U15 age group (boys) and the U19 age group (girls) will compete. The four teams made up of participating boys are called Holder’s Heroes, Mayers’ Magicians, Powell’s Powerhouses, and Simmonds’ Strikers after the Royals’ greatest players. With some of the Royals players present at the event, the participating females will be seen playing cricket in the meantime.
