During the first match of the current season of the Big Bash League (BBL), which took place on Tuesday at the Manuka Oval in Canberra between the Melbourne Stars and the Sydney Thunder, New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult took his first Big Bash League (BBL) wicket.
However, what stood out the most was the way in which Boult took his maiden BBL scalp.
The event took place during the second delivery of the first over of the chase that was being pursued by the Thunder. Matthew Gilkes was attempting to flick the ball for a boundary down the leg side when Boult bowled a delivery that hit him on the pads.
Nevertheless, the replacement fielder Brody Couch, who was playing short fine leg, made one of the most incredible catches.
Couch juggled again, and as he attempted to turn over, the ball came dangerously close to falling out. Despite this, he was successful in keeping hold of it in some way.
Even Boult, with his sheepish smile, couldn’t believe what he saw and he couldn’t believe it either.
Boult’s first game in the Big Bash League was one to remember as he took two wickets in as many deliveries.
After Boult defeated Gilkes, the following delivery that shocked the Thunder’s early lineup had Rilee Roussouw being dominated by Boult, who then finished him off.
Despite this, Boult’s performance was in vain as the Stars were ultimately defeated by the Thunder in a low-scoring thriller despite their best efforts.
The Stars were given the opportunity to bat first, however they were only able to score 122 runs in 20 overs.
The bowlers put up a valiant fight in response, but the Thunder only managed to eke out a victory by one wicket thanks to Gurinder Sanhdu’s late blitz.
While the Stars will now face battle against the Hobart Hurricanes in their next encounter, the Thunder will go up against the Melbourne Renegard in their next contest.
