International players Erin Burns and Chloe Tryon have joined the Guyana Amazon Warriors, strengthening their lineup for the 2024 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
Approaching its third season, the WCPL has made a name for itself as the Caribbean’s finest T20 cricket competition rather quickly.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinbago Knight Riders, and Barbados Royals are the three teams vying for the championship in the 2024 edition, which is set to take place from August 21 to August 29 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
The all-around player from South Africa offers the Amazon Warriors a plethora of expertise. Tryon, who has played in 98 Twenty20 internationals, is a great asset because of her left-arm orthodox spin and hard-hitting middle-order batting style. Her 1,136 runs and 35 wickets record for her country highlights her all-around skills.
Back to lead the Warriors is Stafanie Taylor.
All-arounder Burns, an Australian, is joining Tryon. Burns won a championship with the Barbados Royals during the previous WCPL season. The depth that Burns’ vast T20 experience—117 games in the Women’s Big Bash League included—will bring to the Warriors’ roster. With 2,429 runs and 80 wickets in 162 T20s, her career highlights her consistency and ability to win games.
Important players from the franchise’s 2023 campaign have also been kept on. Last year, Stafanie Taylor, the captain, guided the squad to the championship game. Taylor is joined by a solid core of seasoned players in Shabnim Ismail, Karishma Ramharack, Shemaine Campbelle, Natasha McClean, and Shakera Selman.
The team will look to the WCPL draft in July to fill the remaining seven spots on their 15-man roster. Out of the draft, six local players will be chosen, and one international spot will be verified prior to the start of the season.
