Alyssa Healy continued by stating that a sizable gap in the team had been created by Rachael Haynes’ retirement and Meg Lanning’s tardy withdrawal from the tour due to hidden medical issues. She continued by pointing out that it’s good that they’re attempting to give the younger guys some experience.
“If you look at some of the adjustments this club has experienced over the past year, in especially, you’ll notice that we lost two of our most seasoned players—top-order batters in particular—in the span of a year. There has been some cutting and changing because we are unsure of if or when one of those might return.
I suppose the upside is that we’re giving some young players some experience who we’ve always regarded as having the chance to play for Australia at some time, but they’re maybe getting the opportunity a bit sooner than they’d anticipated, so that’s a nice thing,” she continued.
