On Saturday, August 10, in The Hundred 2024 game between Southern Brave and Trent Rockets at The Rose Bowl in Southampton, Alex Davies made an incredible catch to get rid of Joe Root.
After the Trent Rockets’ decision to bat first after winning the toss, the former England Test captain came out to bat at number four. Before Jofra Archer removed Root from the game on the 62nd ball of the innings, Root hit two incredible boundaries.
But thanks to his rapid footwork, superb agility, and keen reactions, wicketkeeper-battler Alex Davies made the dismissal feasible.
When Archer delivered a leg-cutter that was well outside the off-stump, Root made an attempt to play a late cut. The ball did, however, take a strong outside edge and appeared headed for third man and the boundary ropes. But when he threw himself fully to his right and caught the ball with his right mitt, Davies had other ideas. Davies’ task was made more difficult by the ball dipping into his hands, but he was adamant about not giving up the half chance.
