After his 11-year tenure as club director, Alec Stewart, a former England wicketkeeper and captain, renewed his affiliation with Surrey County. He’s going to take on the role of high-performance adviser in an attempt to lighten his burden considerably.
The primary cause of his recent change of heart is his wife’s breast cancer diagnosis. Notably, Lynn Stewart, his wife, has been battling the illness for the past twelve years. Therefore, Stewart will now devote more time to his wife’s care and family obligations in order to stay by her side and take care of her.
Alec Stewart, meanwhile, will return to Surrey in January of the following year, with a maximum of days allowed per year. The iconic figure hopes to continue the outstanding work that has seen the county win the county championship title twice already during his current tenure. In light of this, the former England legend will aim to lead Surrey to their third consecutive championship in his current position.
“Recently, certain fragments have begun to appear. It is here to stay. It’s handling it. In other words, she has had some decent moments, but the past four weeks have not been easy for her. Regarding Alec Stewart’s involvement in the famous county as a player, the former England wicketkeeper scored 40,396 runs for Surrey. It is noteworthy that he spent over twenty-two years playing for the county. The Merton native will now be in the starting lineup with captain Rory Burns and head coach Gareth Batty.
