Day 1 of the inaugural Test match between India and the West Indies at Windsor Park, Roseau, in Dominica saw India dominate. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 33rd five-wicket haul, and openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on an unbroken 80-run stand. The host team was cheaply dismissed for just 150 runs thanks to Ashwin’s 5/60 and Ravindra Jadeja’s 3/26 statistics.
Kraigg Brathwaite, the captain, explained how the day went by saying that he won the toss and decided to bat first. He was out for 20, while his opening partner, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, was out for 12, both victims of Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite scoring two and fourteen points, respectively, Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood were unable to contribute. Alick Athanaze made a remarkable 47 runs off 99 balls in his first Test match before Ashwin dismissed him.
As their dismal run in international cricket continued, the host team found it difficult to get going. In response, the visitors got off to a strong start with the help of their captain Rohit, who compiled 30* off 65, and rookie Jaiswal, who impressed by managing to stay unout on 40 off 73. The Asian juggernauts finished at 80 and went undefeated, dominating the first day. In order to provide a strong foundation for the approaching middle-order hitters, both of the Indian openers will want to continue their partnership on the second day.
