In the ongoing second Test match between Australia and India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Nathan Lyon became the third bowler overall and first Australian to record 100 wickets against India. In his 24th Test match against India, Nathan Lyon accomplished the feat by taking the wicket of KS Bharat in the second innings to clinch his five-wicket haul.
Only former Indian spinners Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin have taken more or the same number of wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Lyon. With 111 wickets in 20 games, Kumble leads the series all-time in wickets taken, while Ashwin is just behind him with 100 in the same number of games.

In terms of the number of five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, Nathan Lyon is fourth among Australian bowlers, trailing only Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Dennis Lillee. Lyon is Australia’s fourth-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 22 five-wicket hauls to his credit. After Warne and McGrath, Lyon has taken 13 five-wicket hauls in away Tests, which is the third-most by an Australian bowler.
Lyon ranks second among active spinners in terms of the quantity of five-wicket hauls in Test matches, trailing only Ravichandran Ashwin of India. Ashwin has 31 five-wicket hauls in Test matches compared to Lyon’s 22. Third on the list with 19 five-wicket hauls in the format is Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan.
Lyon’s success is evidence of his dependability and potency against the Indian side, which has always been regarded as being adept at spin bowling. Lyon has solidified his spot among the all-time greats of Australian cricket with his outstanding record against India.
