According to sources, Ramiz Raja could lose his position as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board as a result of the national team’s back-to-back losses in Test matches played inside Pakistan versus England.
It is widely believed that a group of unhappy former Board members have formed a lobby and have successfully launched a campaign to have Ramiz removed from his position as chairman of the PCB.
This lobby has asserted that something has been going on behind the scenes, and that the law ministry has forwarded a summary for a change in guard in the PCB to the Prime Minister, who serves as the patron of the Board.
“Certainly, there is activity taking place at this time. There are persistent rumours that Najam Sethi, who recently had a meeting with the premier at an event in Lahore, could be called up to replace Ramiz as Chairman of the Board “one former PCB member claimed.
As a result of England’s victories in the first two Tests of the series, they have already secured the series victory.
Karachi is the location where the third test match is currently being played. Since September 2021, Ramiz has served as the chairman of the PCB. His nomination came from the previous prime, Imran Khan.
Because of their history of disagreements, Najam Sethi resigned from his position as chairman of the PCB after Imran’s party was declared the winner of the majority of seats in the general elections held in 2018.
According to the constitution of the Board, the Prime Minister is responsible for nominating candidates for the role of Chairman, and the Board of Governors is responsible for electing one of the candidates.
Surprisingly, in spite of a vigorous campaign against Ramiz during the election of Shahbaz Sharif as prime minister and the formation of a new government in April of last year, the lobby against the PCB chief was not successful in accomplishing their goal.
In point of fact, Ramiz was permitted to continue in his role as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which is an extremely unusual occurrence in Pakistan cricket given that whenever there is a change in government, the new premier always chooses someone else to fill the key office.
