Two days after Bangladesh’s team was defeated by India in the home Test series, Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo tendered his resignation from his position. In September 2019, Domingo succeeded Steve Rhodes as head coach after Rhodes was dismissed from his position.
The South African was scheduled to remain in his role until the end of the 2023 World Cup. Dominicgo has resigned effective immediately, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus, who spoke to cricbuzz.com on Wednesday. “He (Domingo) sent his resignation letter yesterday (Tuesday),” Yunus said. “That is with immediate effect.”
Bangladesh won a Twenty20 International series at home against Australia and New Zealand, its first ever Test match in New Zealand, a One-Day International series in South Africa, and a One-Day International series at home against India when Domingo was their coach.
A wasteful Bangladeshi performance resulted in their defeat by three wickets in the second test, which took place on Sunday at Mirpur. In the first test, Bangladesh was defeated by 188 runs.
Following the Mirpur Test, Yunus had dropped hints about a potential shift.
“We need a coach who can make an impression and exert some level of influence over the players. You will very quickly observe certain differences. We are making an effort. We want an extremely powerful team that is capable of taking on high-quality and fiercely competitive teams.
“We came very close to defeating India, but it would not be easy to win against this squad. We had success in this arena against England and Australia, but India is a more formidable opponent under these lighting circumstances.
“The importance of motivation in today’s culture cannot be overstated. We aren’t just looking for a capable coach; we also need him to act as a guide. At this level, there is less opportunity to teach them new abilities; nonetheless, the coach is still required to discuss player performances with the players after each series “Yunus said.
