Following India’s victory in the second Test match against Bangladesh at Mirpur on Wednesday, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer both earned major advancements in the rankings of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
As a result of the fact that he finished the match with six wickets, Ashwin has moved up one spot and is now tied for fourth place among bowlers along with his teammate Jasprit Bumrah.
Following a key unbeaten knock of 42 in the second innings, which permitted a three-wicket victory and won India crucial WTC points, he has also inched up three places to 84th among batters, which has enabled him to move up the rankings.
Ashwin, who has previously held the position of No. 1 bowler and all-rounder, has also received seven rating points in the all-rounders’ rankings. These rankings are currently headed by Ravindra Jadeja, who is Ashwin’s countryman. At this time, Jadeja has 369 rating points, whereas Ashwin only has 343 points.
Iyer is currently ranked in the 16th position, which is a career high for him. Iyer’s combination with Ashwin resulted in an unbroken 71-run partnership that was important in the team’s triumph.
Iyer has moved up from the 26th spot, which was his previous best in the rankings, thanks to his scores of 87 and 29 not out.
Despite being named player of the series in Bangladesh, Cheteshwar Pujara fell three spots to be ranked 19th, and seasoned batter Virat Kohli fell two spots from 12th to 14th as a result of a disappointing series.
